Ventrilo is voice communication software for computer game players as well as business professionals. It allows you to talk over your Internet connection to anyone else who has Ventrilo and is connected to the same Ventrilo server. With TypeFrag you're signing up with the most trusted and respected Ventrilo host.
Ventrilo can be used for home and personal applications like talking to friends and family, or playing organized online games that can be made even more exciting and productive by voice communication. It can also be used in an enterprise environment and as a productivity tool for conducting long distance group discussions.
All technical jargon aside, Ventrilo allows people across the world to communicate with each other instantly, free of phone bills, over the Internet by using a microphone. If you are a professional seeking to keep in contact with your business during time away and you want to save on your phone bill, or if you are a computer gamer wanting to communicate with your team during practice and matches, our Ventrilo Service provides 24/7 connectivity to you at a low cost. Think of it as a handheld two-way radio with CD quality sound, allowing you to stay in constant communication with the other people who are connected. There is no better software and no better company to help bridge communication gaps of this kind.
You can start by downloading a copy of Ventrilo from our Downloads page, installing the software, and then reading our "New Users Guide," which will show you the basic steps needed for connecting to a server. Once you have Ventrilo up and running, you can connect to any of our test servers -- to be found on our Locations page -- simply by clicking on one as if it were a standard web link.
From there you will want to get someone to join with you to test the quality of communication. After you have finished testing Ventrilo, you will want to browse through our Control Panel Demo, which will show you how to gain complete control of your own Ventrilo server. When all of this is done, you will have a good sense of how Ventrilo works. If you have any questions at that point, you should Contact Support.
The first PC version of Ventrilo (latest: 2.3.0) debuted early 2000. It began as a simple voice communication program but has since evolved to offer many features. The last update to Ventrilo’s PC version was August 7th, 2005, and included dozens of changes. While Ventrilo is used primarily by PC gamers, the first Mac version was released on November 11th, 2005, and works seamlessly with the PC version.
Mac Ventrilo (latest: 2.3.2.Prototype.14) is slightly different from the PC version in that it requires the Ventrilo server's voice codec to be set to Speex. Currently in the prototype stage, Mac Ventrilo is being developed so that one day it can be completely compatible with the PC version; but is not quite there at this point.
The current system requirements for Mac Ventrilo are:
If you are a Mac user of Ventrilo, but your Ventrilo server's voice codec is not set to Speex, you will be able to use every capability of Ventrilo except for being able to send and receive voice communication.
As a TypeFrag customer, however, you can easily set your voice codec to Speex from within your Control Panel. Go to the Configuration page, locate voice codec, select Speex, and apply the changes. If you are not the account owner, you should contact that person, asking that the Speex codec to be enabled so you can talk.
