The first step to getting Ventrilo installed on your computer is to download it. Go to the Ventrilo website to download a copy of the Mac OS X Ventrilo Client (latest version: 2.3.2.Prototype.14). The file size of the Ventrilo Client is about 2 MB. We recommend that you download the Ventrilo Client directly to your desktop to make it easier to locate.
Installing Ventrilo for the Mac is simple. After you've successfully downloaded the Ventrilo client, double click on the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen. Be sure to read through the Introduction and License Agreement before continuing on with the installation.

The Mac version of Ventrilo is still under development as the message below indicates. You will see this message whenever the Mac version of Ventrilo is launched. Simply click Continue and you'll be able to use Ventrilo. Keep in mind that the Ventrilo server you connect to will need to be using the Speex codec. TypeFrag customers can easily configure their servers to support the Speex codec.

After you've successfully downloaded and installed Ventrilo, you'll need to do some basic configurations to be able to connect to a Ventrilo server. First, you'll need to create a User Name for yourself. You can do this by clicking the arrow (->) to the right of the User Name field. This will open up a Setup User screen with a New button on it. Click the New button and type in the User Name that you wish to display when connecting to Ventrilo servers.

After you've created the User Name, click the OK button to close out the window. You can set up more advanced options for your User Name, but that is beyond the scope of this guide.
Next, you'll need to open up the Connection Editor by clicking the arrow (->) to the right of Server. Click the New button as you did previously when creating a User Name, type in the name of the Ventrilo Server you wish to save, and then click OK. For testing purposes, you can try to connect to one of the TypeFrag demo servers. Under Hostname or IP, type in the hostname power.typefrag.com. Under Port number type in 3784. Click the OK button to save this server to your list of servers.

Now simply click the Connect button at the top right of the Ventrilo main screen and you will connect to the server above. When signing up with TypeFrag, you will be given your own unique hostname and port. Keep in mind that you will need to go back to the Connection Editor screen to add a new server to your Ventrilo Client. And that's all it takes to be able to connect to a Ventrilo Server.
