How to Create a Ventrilo Channel

Download Ventrilo

Voice Communication for Gamers

Logging in as the Server Administrator

Ignore this section if you are already logged in as an administrator.

  1. Right-click anywhere in the white space inside the Ventrilo Client, go to Server Admin, and click Login – This will bring up the Enter Admin Password menu.

  2. Enter your server's Admin Password and click OK.

  3. You will now be logged in as an administrator on your server, which will be denoted by a capital “A” next to your server's name in the upper-left corner of the server.

If the password was entered incorrectly you will automatically be kicked from the server, and receive an error message informing you as such. In this situation simply reconnect to the server, repeat the process, and ensure that the password is entered without any typos.

Creating an Open Channel

  1. Right-click your Ventrilo Server's name (this is the text in bold print at the very top of the server), go to Channel Admin, and click Create.
If you right-click anywhere but the server name, then the Channel Admin options will be grayed out.

  2. Type in the channel's name in the Display name box, and click OK.

You have successfully created an open channel on your Ventrilo Server. Repeat this process to create additional open channels.

Creating a Password Protected Channel

A password protected channel requires users to enter a password when they attempt to enter it. Users logged in as administrators are not required to enter the password, and can enter these channels freely.

  1. Right-click your Ventrilo Server's name (this is the text in bold print at the very top of the server), go to Channel Admin, and click Create.

  2. Type the channel's name in the Display name box, and the desired password into the Password box.

  3. Set the Protected Mode from “Open to Public” to “Channel Password” and click OK.

You have successfully created a password protected channel on your Ventrilo Server. Repeat this process to create additional password protected channels.

Creating a User Authorization Channel

A user authorization channel allows entry to only the users that you have specified. This is the most stringent form of channel security that Ventrilo offers, and requires that you create a user profile for each user you want to allow in that channel.

  1. Right-click your Ventrilo Server's name, go to Channel Admin, and click Create.

  2. Type the channel's name in the Display name box.

  3. Set the Protected Mode from “Open to Public” to “User Authorization” and click OK.

You have successfully created a user authorization channel on your Ventrilo Server. Repeat this process to create additional user authorization channels.

Giving Users Permission to Enter a User Authorization Channel

After creating a User Authorization channel, you will need to give permission to users who are to have access to that channel.

  1. Right-click anywhere in the white space of the Ventrilo Client, go to Server Admin, and click User Editor.

  2. Select the username you would like to edit from the Current Users list.

  3. Go to the Chan Auth tab, select the appropriate channel from the Available list, and click Add to move it to the Current list.

  4. Click the Update button at the bottom of the User Editor to apply this change to your server.

You have successfully given a user permission to access a user authorization channel on your Ventrilo Server. Repeat this process to give additional users access.
